‘VOICES FROM THE HEART’ volume 1…….
What is the MakuaMix CD?
“Voices from the Heart” is a compilation cd of original music whose proceeds go directly to the heart of San Diego’s CASA Program through Makua, friends of Voices for Children. Artists chosen for the project get a chance to share the spotlight on a professionally produced/mastered CD, while giving back to the local community in the form of helping local foster children. Submissions for Volume 2 will be accepted online and will include genres like alternative, pop, rock, R & B, country and reggae. Volume 1 will be available for purchase for $12. To order, go to ALBUMS on this site and click ‘BUY’.
How Did the Project Get Started?
The Compilation CD is the brainchild of San Diego-based singer-songwriter Lacy Younger, whose hit, “Something You Do”, remained on the US Top 40 AC chart for 12 weeks in 2007-2008. Lacy became a supporter of Makua when she performed for our ‘Wild, Wild West’ Fundraiser in 2008 at Liberty Station. She was inspired by the genuine passion and spirit of Makua members, and wanted to join us in our endeavors to create funds and awareness for Voices for Children. Submissions were taken on line from November 2010 through May 2011 for Volume 1.
What’s on the CD?
1. Heart of Mine by Lacy Younger
2. My Only Friend by Soul Plow
3. This Is Your Life by Danny Myrick/Kirsti Mana
4. No Sleep For The Lonely by Bard

1st Annual MakuaMix CD
Lacy Younger is producing this project to benefit ‘Voices for Children’. ‘Makua’, friends of ‘V.F.C’, a long standing women’s
auxiliary group are partners in this endeavor. “The women of Makua”
inspired me to invest in our local youth; they work tirelessly to
help these young people and I am so blown away by the amount of
heart and time they give”….”I felt that singing ‘voices’ and raising
funds through music was a natural link to ‘Voices’ for Children and a
fun and creative way to bring attention to such an important cause”,
says Lacy,… “Voices are meant to be heard”.
We are looking for original music…there are still 9 spots
left to fill on the upcoming CD. It is a wonderful opportunity
for any artist.

Lacy Younger’s “Still Wild”
How is it that we define genre and sound? When we listen to music our minds sub-consciously file that song among other songs that we are familiar with and without us knowing makes that judgment of, “this is a country record” or “this is a rock record.” Lacy Younger’s sound will definitely play tricks on your mind. It resides in that indefinable area where country and rock n’ roll meet. Her deeply personal bleeding heart lyrics scream country, but her voice, and the soul that resonates from that voice is all rock n’ roll. Her sound really reflects her experiences and influences, having spent time playing music in both Nashville and Los Angeles. Still Wild was brought to fruition with Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Val Garay (Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, and Kim Carnes). Having written 11 out of the 13 tracks herself, the album is a walk through Lacy’s soul…..a country chanteuse with a rock n’ roll heart.
